Talking Without Communicating

We can talk. We can talk all night.  We can talk about that time you got shot in the leg by some guys in a gang in the park by my house when you were 13 and how you ran to the neighborhood gang "doctor" who sewed the hole up.  We can talk about how you never told your parents who still don't know about it.  We can talk about my time I spent overseas, floating from country to country, working and traveling but I'll leave the details out because most of it was with an ex and we don't need to have an ex in our talking.  We can talk about how much we both loathe beards and bad drivers.  We can talk about where we want to live or how we both want to start our own businesses.  We can talk and talk and talk. But we don't communicate. We don't share what's below the surface, bubbling up like wax.  I don't communicate that I get butterflies every time I see you, as if I'm still not completely comfortable.  You don't tell me about the stress yo...

Thoughts on Love, Life, and Skeletons

I've been thinking about relationships a lot lately. I've probably been thinking about them more because mine seem to continue ending whether I want them to or not and I find myself back in the same snotty, puffy eyed place I was before. But I guess the truth of it is, that it's not the same place. I'm moving forward whether it feels like it or not. Through this process of starting over, letting someone in, allowing myself to be vulnerable, getting attached, and then having it all go away, I've learned so much about the nature of relationships and the truth about letting go. I thought I'd share a few nuggets of wisdom. Imagine this...a woman goes on a date with handsome man. They sit down for dinner in a romantic, candle lit restaurant.
