Things fall apart

The air has turned cool and crisp as I watch the leaves on the larch tree outside shake tenuously in the wind, their stems clinging to the branches like fingers weak from hanging on for too long until they finally let go and sail haltingly to the ground. There is a graveyard of fallen yellow leaves on my lawn.

I made it home to Montana to find nothing has changed, nothing except me, that is. And my life. I came armed with companionship, ready to battle the solitude of country living with my partner, certain having someone by my side would ease the transition. But it's difficult when I'm so resistant to change, so resistant to returning, so resistant to the familiarity of this place. But we made it here, the first big step on a long stairway.

And we lasted almost a week before things fell apart. And now, I'm hanging from the trees like the leaves, hoping my strength will hold out, hoping we won't fall haltingly to the graveyard below.

I'm in love with the end. Or well, I fall in love with the things that are ending. If it's going to last, I forget to love it. Korea is ending. My adventure is coming to a close. The Malaysian Ending

I live for the boat rides just before a storm when the water reaches for the sky in sharp points like meringue, and there are no guests in the boat, just Rippen and I and sometimes Sebastian. Rippen drives faster then, careening off the waves like a roller coaster, surveying the water for logs or garbage. Where I see debris, he sees the shadows the waves cast on the water. He is a skilled driver, born i n a village called Mukut just south of Bagus Place, where he grew up on the water. He knows when the sea is angry and when it will be calm and flat like porcelain. On these boat rides, I scan the horizon, watch the beaches and the jungle of Tioman stretch out in both directions, search the water for giant sea turtles, and feel the salty wind whip across my face. Thoughts on Love, Life, and Skeletons

I've been thinking about relationships a lot lately. I've probably been thinking about them more because mine seem to continue ending whether I want them to or not and I find myself back in the same snotty, puffy eyed place I was before. But I guess the truth of it is, that it's not the same place. I'm moving forward whether it feels like it or not.
